The Fred Astaire Dance Studio is expanding its dancing to the most important out there - the kids! Ballroom, Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, and Hip Hop will all be part of our curriculum.
Ballet - This is a classic style Ballet class. We teach basic barre/ballet positions and center exercises to learn foot and arm positions. this is a child-friendly environment to be introduced to the art of dancing.
Hip Hop - The basics of Hip Hop are taught with fun and creative routines. There is an emphasis on rhythm and loosening up.
Movement - This class is used to teach and improve coordination and to introduce children to the joy of movement, rhythym and music. Students are challenged with activities that encourage the development of fine and gross motor coordination, locomotion movements, musicality and the ability to follow directions.
Lyrical/Jazz - These classes are born from ballet, but movements changed to become more stylized by the pop of jazzy music. Lyrical is a more soft, fluid type of dance whereas jazz is faster paced and higher in energy.
Ballroom - This class teaches children the basics of ballroom dancing. Both smooth and rhythm styles will be introduced. We will focus on movement, posture and ballroom etiquette.
The classes run in 6-week sessions: each session costs $60. We encourage you to enroll your child in more than one class as all types of dance benefit from one another. Ballet/Jazz shoes are encouraged. For Hip Hop classes sneakers are welcome. The children can wear any clothes besides jeans that will allow movement. Gym pants or shorts for boys, stretch pants, or leotards with tights are appropriate for girls. Skirts are optional.
